Details
- Tetherwood was inspired by the idea of attaching string to the joystick of a Gamecube controller. We thought it would be fun to play a game where the player remotely steers their character from a distance and has to physically move around beyond using their hands.
- We started by testing indie and bitsy games on itch, and A Short Hike. These all matched well with the retro look of the Gamecube controller, but we wanted something more specific to the controller. We decided to create our own 2-player game and translate the controls onto the screen, where both players control a piece of string that can be used to score points.
- Development took 2 days. On Day 1, Archer crafted the character designs, Arthur designed the string, and Kevin designed the enemy behavior. On Day 2, all three of us met in person to polish our design and physically construct the setup for the game (which can be viewed in the screenshots)!
- Enjoy!
