Plushy Strife
Plushy Strife
An Alt-Control game where you choose your very own TOV (Tool of Violence) and beat the crap out of my stuffed animal.
Conventional Controls: Arrow Keys (Up, Right, Down)
Build recommended to avoid webcam issues.
Alt-Control Setup
Materials
- Cardboard
- Wire
- Solder
- Copper Foil
- 1x Alligator Clip
- USB Joystick Controller Board
- String
- Tape
- hot Glue
- Tool of Violence (I used a pot)
Setup
Target pads are made from copper foil glued onto cardboard. The pads are tied to the stuffed animal using string.
Each pad is wired to a different input on the Controller board.
The ground wire runs through the alligator clip, and is clipped to the Tool of Violence. Contact between the Tool of Violence and the Target Pad results in joystick input (which is converted to keyboard input using Joy2Key)
Details
Plushy Strife came from an alt-control assignment where I chose a beloved stuffed animal to convert into a controller.
The least destructive action was actually the pad + violence idea, so I went with it. Also, I really wanted to hit stuff with a metal pot in the back of the classroom.
I realized that using conductivity was convenient in that I could use other tools too - Crowbars, Keyboards, Scissors, anything conductive, so I decided to turn that into a feature in the in-game leaderboard.
Development of the controller took about a week, and development of the game was primarily done over 2 days.
